Srinagar, November 14, 2024: In a powerful display of solidarity and condemnation, ‘Save Youth Save Future Foundation’ organized a candlelight march at Ghanta Ghar, Lal Chowk, on Thursday evening to protest the recent attack in Srinagar’s Sunday Market, where an innocent woman tragically lost her life. The peaceful gathering drew people from diverse backgrounds, all unified in their call for justice and peace.
Leading the march, Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of Save Youth Save Future, expressed his deep sorrow and outrage at the incident. “Today, we stand here united, our voices echoing the collective grief and condemnation of this brutal act. Abida’s life was taken unjustly, leaving a void that cannot be filled. We demand swift action from the authorities to bring those responsible to justice,” Bhat stated.
Bhat further emphasized that those responsible for such violence distort religious teachings to suit extremist purposes. Drawing on the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) condemnation of violence against innocents, Bhat remarked, “Such groups are akin to the 'Khawarij' in Islam—those who pervert religion to justify their heinous actions. They represent neither Islam nor its teachings.”
Mudasir Dar, Zonal President of Save Youth Save Future, South Kashmir, echoed Bhat’s sentiments. “It is time for us, as a community, to come together beyond all divides and work towards eradicating the roots of violence. We must foster a society rooted in peace, justice, and unity,” he stated.
The participants carried candles, symbolizing peace and remembrance for the deceased, as they voiced their deep sorrow over the incident and their hope for a safer, more peaceful Kashmir.
The protest follows a grenade attack on November 3 near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) in Srinagar’s busy market, which injured at least 12 civilians. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation across the region, with calls for renewed efforts to ensure public safety.
